MAKI-E is a tradisional technic that has been developing originally in Japan.
It has been used in the industrial arts with URUSHI.
I introduce an example which applied this technic to a painting.
Please pay attention to an elastic string which bundles up hair of a girl. (image-1)

When I emphasized the three-dimensional impression and the feel of the material, I thought that there became interesting visually.
[1] At first I painted the form of the elastic string with emulsion.
I could delete touch of a brush and heap up it by making it the most suitable hardness by mixing it with paste-shaped medium.
[2] I spilled IWA-ENOGU on the surface before it dries. (image-2)

Because I have used the water-soluble emulsion which resembles tempera,
it is suitable for IWA-ENOGU.
There are several particle sizes in each color of this kind pigments.
I used a pigment of the most coarse size this time.
The emulsion is necessary for a few days to dry.
[3] I got rid of unnecessary particles by a tender brush kindly. (image-3)
